Eastern Takes Its 21st Bite of The Big Apple

Since 1994, Eastern Theatre students and faculty have come together at the end of the academic year to participate in intensive learning opportunities in New York City. This past May, 14 Theatre students and five Theatre faculty participated in Eastern’s 21st NYC Showcase. Students presented “Scenes, Songs, and Monologues 2015” in the Producer’s Club Crown Theatre. The students and faculty participated in Fitzmaurice voice and singing workshops, led by Ilse Pfeifer and Joseph Bates; toured TINC Productions and the Museum of Modern Art; attended“Dinner With The Boys” in Theatre Row’s Acorn Theatre written by and starring Dan Lauria.

“Mr. Lauria arranged for the students to take a backstage tour of the Acorn Theatre led by production stage manager Lindsay Stringfellow,” said Theatre Professor Ellen Brodie. “He also arranged for his co-stars, Richard Zavaglia and Ray Abruzzo, to meet with the students and faculty afterwards for what was coined a “Meet and Eat.” Following the students’ final performance of “Scenes, Songs, and Monologues 2015,” casting directors Robin Carus of Robin Carus Casting, and Stephanie Baca of Amy Gossels Casting, participated in a question and answer session with the students and audience, which included Eastern Theatre alumni as well as family and friends. “All in all, this was once again a wonderful way for our junior and senior Theatre students to experience touring a show to NYC, taking workshops and networking with professionals in the field, and, importantly, becoming familiar with the Theatre mecca of New York City,” said Brodie.
