The Theatre Program + Performance Media Program offers many opportunities for students to work on-stage, backstage and front-of-house through classes, independent studies, internships, and practicum work. Students also showcase their talents in full-length major productions, one-acts, original plays and staged readings. Students can also join an active Drama Society, DTM Club and Film Club.

The Theatre Program + Performance Media Program is housed in Eastern’s beautiful Fine Arts Instructional Center, which opened in January 2016. The new building features a Proscenium Thrust Theatre, a Studio Theatre with flexible seating, performance/dance labs, and state-of-the-art classrooms. Performances in other sites throughout the campus and on tour are offered as well.

Touring opportunities include the NYC Showcase of Student Talent in New York City; the Los Angeles Spring Break Program; the Prague Quadrennial program. The Theatre Program + Performance Media Program also has guest artist residencies built into it each semester.

Programs of Study

  • Through classes, independent studies, internships, practica, and study tours, Theatre and Performance Media majors at Eastern examine the history of performance and gain practical experience in production. In conjunction with hands-on production, those who select a Performance Media concentration will create and produce fictional and non-fictional digital media content. In addition to one-acts, original plays, and staged readings, the program produces four main stage shows each year, giving students many opportunities to develop skills and talents in all areas of theatre and dance, whether onstage, backstage, or front-of-house. Students choose from one of 5 concentrations: Acting; Directing, Dramaturgy & Cultural Performance; Dance & World Performance; Design/Technology/Management; or Performance Media. Students selecting the Performance Media concentration take a unique Core which emphasizes principles in digital media production.
