Mission Statement

The mission of the Theatre program at Eastern Connecticut State University, the state’s designated public liberal arts university, is to provide high-quality undergraduate production training to a diverse population of students. By utilizing research, scholarship, professional and academic creative work, and community engagement to inform curriculum, professors teach the application of theory in practical settings. The Theatre program is committed to strengthening humanity’s relationship with creative expression while preparing each student to contribute their own artistic voice to the larger world.

Learning Goals & Outcomes

Learning Goal 1: Knowledge Base

Learning Outcome: Students will be able to identify and articulate major developments and personalities in performance practices across time and cultures.

Learning Goal 2: Critical Thinking
  1. Learning Outcome: Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to think critically and conceptually about texts and performance practices in written communication.
  2. Learning Outcome: Students are assessed on their ability to creatively solve problems in production settings.
Learning Goal 3: Theory into Practice

Learning Outcome: Students will demonstrate growth in skills-proficiencies in at least one area of theatre specialization (concentration).

Learning Goal 4: Professional Development

Learning Outcome: Students should demonstrate proficiency and professional preparedness through internships, senior projects, and capstones.
