Credit/No Credit Course Policy

n April 6, the University Senate voted to alter the Credit/No Credit Course Policy for this semester only. Please note that this policy is slightly different than previous policies in that you will be limited to a maximum three courses placed on CR/NC this spring. The new policy applies to both undergraduate and graduate students.

For the Spring 2021 semester:

  1. Students may change up to three courses to CR/NC this semester.
  2. A grade of Credit (CR*) for Spring 2021 will count for any major, minor, entrance requirement (Language), LAC requirement, and all other University graduation requirements.
  3. A grade of CR* in Spring 2021 will not count against the overall number of CR* grades allowed in a student’s academic career.
  4. The deadline to choose the Credit/No Credit option for full semester courses is May 7, 2021 and the decision is not revocable after that.
  5. The deadline to choose for less than full semester courses is the last day of that part of term and the decision would not be revocable after that.
  6. Any letter grade of D or higher will receive Credit.
  7. A student may place a repeated course on Credit/No Credit for this semester.

Full policy information and steps to apply this policy

Taking a course for credit rather than a letter grade may have implications for your graduate school or future employment plans. Students should consult with advisors regarding individual major expectations, effects on graduate school and employment opportunities, and the continuing requirement that they receive 12 credits of letter grades to be considered for the Dean’s list.

If you have any questions, please contact your faculty advisor or the professional advisors in the Academic Success Center.
