Eastern President Núñez Appointed Vice Chair of the Board of AAC&U

Eastern Connecticut State University President Elsa Núñez was appointed vice chair of the board of directors of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) on Feb. 11 at the association’s annual meeting in Washington, DC. There are 1,350 member institutions in the AAC&U.

“Those who serve on AAC&U’s board are strongly committed to a high-quality liberal education for all college students,” said AAC&U President Carol Geary Schneider. “AAC&U is very fortunate to be led by talented and dedicated directors who are deeply engaged in our efforts to connect high-quality liberal learning, Americans’ global future and the equity imperative.”

In August 2015, Núñez started her 10th year as Eastern’s president. Under her leadership, Eastern is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the 27th top public university in the North; is recognized by the Chronicle of Higher Education as a “Great College to Work For”; is included in the U.S. Green Building Council’s list of the nation’s top Green Colleges; and is recognized as one of the Top Ten Workplaces in Connecticut by the Hartford Courant.

Núñez came to Eastern following more than 20 years as a senior administrator at such institutions as City University of New York (CUNY) and the University of Maine System. She has also authored two books — “Pursuing Diversity” (1992) and “Hanging Out and Hanging On: From the Projects to the Campus” (2014) — published numerous articles and served on the faculty of Ramapo State College, the College of Staten Island, Lehman College and Eastern.
