Pi Sigma Alpha members tabling to register new voters

Eastern Connecticut State University’s Political Science honors society, Pi Sigma Alpha, recently hosted a voter registration event on Oct. 26. Aiming to promote civil engagement and register voters, the event was equipped with a voter registration table, as well as guest speaker Sue Larsen, registrar for the city of South Windsor.
Eastern’s Pi Sigma Alpha chapter, Alpha Beta Gamma, made the event possible through applying for a Pi Sigma Alpha grant aimed to promote civic engagement and voter registration. In order to apply for the grant, members of their university’s chapter were required to draft a specific proposal regarding what will be done with the funding, as well as a drafted budget for the grant.
“Grants like this give us the ability to put on events around campus representing the Political Science department,” explained Pi Sigma Alpha president Trevor Mays ’23, “to help give students experiences with politics and public officials they wouldn't otherwise have.”
The event was a huge success, said Mays, registering nearly 40 new voters and informing others of their voting locations. Larsen used her time on campus to speak with a small group of students to talk them through the voting process and educate them about being involved in local decision making.
