Kira Holmes (HIS ‘12) and Chelsey Knyff curated an exhibit “Unlacing the Corset, Unleashing the Vote” at the Mill Museum in Willimantic, CT. The exhibit uses stories and fashion to explore experiences of Connecticut women since the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920 until recent times. A collection of undergarments and female fashion items on display reflects changing social, cultural and political landscape in Connecticut and the nation, while profiles of prominent female leaders provide historical background for the story of women’s movement.
After graduating from Eastern with a degree in History, Kira Holmes earned her MA in Public History from CCSU and currently works at the Mystic Seaport Museum. She is also a member of the Mill Museum’s Board of Directors.
Congratulations, Kira!
