Dr. Kirchmann’s American history seminar class visited the Windham Textile and History Museum (the Mill Museum) on September 13. The seminar’s topic is immigration and ethnicity in Connecticut and New England. Dr. Jamie Eves, museum’s executive director and fellow historian, gave the group a tour of the museum. In addition to regular exhibits, we had a chance to peruse the temporary exhibit on de-industrialization in New England and how it affected the textile mills in the region. We completed the tour by the historical marker in the Heritage Park by the river, which commemorates the ethnic communities of workers employed in Willimantic mills.
