2008 Henry Barnard Student Awards

Kevin Douglas

Kevin Douglas, a social work major from Willimantic, CT, maintained a 3.95 GPA while serving as a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, vice president of Eastern's chapter of Amnesty International, and vice president of the International Students Association. He was named the 2007 National Association of Social Workers B.S.W. Student of the Year for Connecticut, was a recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award, and earned a Connecticut General Assembly Citation for Academic Excellence. He also traveled to New Orleans to work in the post-Katrina cleanup and to South Carolina as part of a select group of Habitat for Humanity volunteers from the United States and Canada. He also spent his spring break helping to build homes in West Virginia with Habitat for Humanity.

Jenna Trudeau

Jenna Trudeau, a health and physical education major from Berlin, CT, maintained a 3.90 GPA and served as a member of the Alpha Upsilon Chi International, the Health and Physical Education Honor Society. She has earned Eastern's Academic Excellence Award, the ECSU Foundation Inc.'s competitive Scholarship Award and the Dean's Award, and was named one of Connecticut's Outstanding Future Professionals. She has volunteered at the Special Olympics in Windham, teaching basketball activities to participants; organized motor skills stations during Activity Night at Sweeney Elementary School; helped out at Jump Rope for Heart; and taught "resistance band lessons" to special needs campers at Camp Horizons in South Windham.
