2004 Henry Barnard Student Awards

Kristina Lenda

Kristina Lenda of Oakdale, CT, was a History major at Eastern who has excelled since graduating. During her time at Eastern, she served as student representative of the executive Honor's Program Board, as a member of Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society and served as vice president and president of the Honors Club. She also ran three successful donation drives for those in need in Windham County, coached youth soccer and established a workshop for freshmen that developed safe-sex kits for people in the surrounding community.

She went on to attend law school at Quinnipiac University, and subsequently worked in the Connecticut State Judicial Branch for Superior Court Judges after law school. She has since been in private practice since 2008. She has been designated by her peers as a "Connecticut Rising Star" in the 2013 "Super Lawyers" issue of Connecticut Magazine.

Poyan Shojaiyan

Poyan Shojaiyan, who hails from Sweden, graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Biology. During his time at Eastern, he made the Dean's List all eight semesters and was presented the "Highest Achievement Award in Biology" from 2000 - 2004. He has also received seven competitive scholarships during his academic career.

He was also a student trainer in Eastern's sports center, events coordinator on the Campus Activities Board, treasurer and historian of the Tri-Beta Biology Honor Society and a teacher's assistant. He has also volunteered at Windham Hospital and worked as a personal assistant in a local nursing home.
