Biography

Prior to graduate studies and before taking up his present appointment, Richard J. Reynolds had a 27-year career as a high school teacher and administrator in Australian schools. He completed his teacher education and undergraduate studies in Australia. His master’s degree was awarded by the University of San Francisco in 1988. In 1992 he fulfilled the requirements for the award of the doctoral degree at The Ohio State University where he wrote a national award-winning dissertation. In the fall of 1992 he took up his present appointment teaching undergraduate and graduate course work in Educational Foundations at Eastern Connecticut State University. In this capacity he teaches course work in the history, philosophy, ethics, sociology and the finance and governance of education. Additionally, he regularly teaches graduate coursework in curriculum development and evaluation. He has served seven years as president of the New England Philosophy of Education Society (NEPES) and is active in the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE), the American Educational Studies Association (AESA) and the Philosophy of Education Society (PES) as a member of national policy committees and as a presenter, proposal reviewer, discussant and session chair at their annual conferences. To date he has made some 70 presentations at local, regional, national and international meetings of professional associations. He regularly reviews educational texts for Choice magazine and textbook publishers and has published some twenty articles (incl. book chapters) in a range of journals including the Journal of Teacher Education, The International Journal of Educational Reform, International Education, Multicultural Perspectives, Bulletin of Science,Technology and Society, Childhood Education, Journal of Negro Education and the Journal of Thought.
