Profile

I am an Associate Professor of English at Eastern Connecticut State University. I received my Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University in Rhetoric and Writing in 1998 and came to Eastern to develop and coordinate the first-year writing curriculum. I served as Coordinator of First-Year Writing until Fall 2009.

My current scholarly interests center on the rhetoric of religion, especially contemporary rhetorics of progressive Christian groups such as Sojourners. In May 2012, I will present a paper at the Biennial Conference of the Rhetoric Society of America (RSA) on the Christian rhetoric in support of comprehensive immigration reform. I have consistently presented at the RSA conference in recent years, and my 2008 paper (an analysis of the jeremiad in Jim Wallis's God's Politics) was published in the conference proceedings, The Responsibilities of Rhetoric.

My teaching interests continue to include first-year writing, rhetoric, and composition. In the 2012-2013 academic year, I will be teaching a senior seminar entitled "Rhetorics of Conversion: Stories of Becoming."

Recently, I've also begun teaching in an exciting new area: electronic literature. The E-Lit gallery connected to this site will soon showcase work from my students produced for English 230: Reading and Writing Electronic Literature.
