University Writing Program Requirements

English 100/100p
Writing Center

The University Writing Program is designed to help students to learn how writing shapes and aids thinking; to understand the cultures and conventions of their disciplines; and, through practice and revision, to confront their (universal!) insecurities about writing in order to become better, more confident writers in the worlds they will enter when they graduate.

After writing an initial placement essay, students at Eastern complete the following three stages of the University Writing Program:

Stage 1: ENGLISH 100, College Writing, or ENGLISH 100P, College Writing Plus.
Additional information about these courses

Stage 2: Students entering Eastern Fall 2011 or later must complete a designated writing-intensive course or several writing-enhanced courses in their major.

Stage 3: A designated 300–or 400–level writing-intensive course in the major.

Students entering with fewer than 75 credits are required to complete all three stages of the writing requirements.
