On March 23, more than 300 people gathered at the Hilton Hotel in Hartford to honor David G. Carter for his many years of leadership as the president of Eastern Connecticut State University and as the new chancellor of the Connecticut State University System.
CSU Board Chairman Lawrence McHugh praised Carter for his love of students and his integrity, noting that Carter “will lead the CSU to greatness. He is one of the best educational leaders in our great nation. I am proud to call him my friend.”
Michael Pernal, Eastern’s interim president, described Carter as a student learner and a teacher, forever connected to students and their quest for knowledge. He acknowledged Carter’s legacy on the Eastern campus, which has tripled in square footage since Carter arrived in 1988. Pernal also announced that donations from the generous audience had raised more than $101,000 in funds for the David G. Carter Endowed Scholarship Fund at Eastern.
