Professor Fraustino Receives Fulbright Scholar Award
|
Lisa Rowe Fraustino, associate professor of English, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and consult on children’s literature at Mahasarakham University in Thailand from May 30 to Nov. 21, 2006. Fraustino will assist in the development of a new graduate program designed to train teachers in the use of children’s books to teach English.
“Dr. Fraustino is the second Eastern professor to receive a Fulbright Scholar award this year and we are thrilled that she can share her extensive knowledge of children’s literature with the people of Thailand,” said Eastern President Michael Pernal. “Advancing relationships with the people of other countries is one of the goals of our University. Dr. Fraustino’s time in Thailand presents a wonderful opportunity to establish a meaningful connection with educators and students in that country.”
Fraustino has shipped 200 lbs. of children’s books to Thailand, most of them donated by her Eastern students, fellow professors, and friends who write children’s books. “These books will stay in Thailand to add to the lending library of my mentor, Dr. Wajuppa Tossa,” explained Fraustino. In her first few weeks in Thailand, she took an accelerated course in the Thai language, visited historical sites, and adjusted to the climate and the cuisine — including grasshoppers! “They are quite tasty!” she said.

Eastern Professor Wins 2006 CSU Trustees Research Award |

Michèle Bacholle-Boškovic, associate professor of French Studies, is Eastern Connecticut State University’s recipient of the 2006 CSU Trustees Research Award.
Bacholle-Boškovic, who has been recognized for her work in the field of French literature and criticism, has been published in numerous peer-reviewed and commissioned journals and has attended and presented at more than 20 conferences in the United States, France, and Canada.
Her latest book, “Linda Lê, L’Écriture Du Manque,” is a one-of-a- kind study examining the works of Linda Lê, the controversial, young Vietnamese writer. Bacholle-Boškovic gained unique insights for her book by conducting a personal interview with Lê in Paris, as well as maintaining an ongoing correspondence.
In recognizing her achievements, Eastern President Michael Pernal noted that Bacholle-Boškovic explores themes that are central to the lives of students and their families, especially women and immigrant families. Her research includes multiculturalism in French children’s literature, Vietnamese Cinema, and the Algerian War.
Bacholle-Boškovic joined Eastern in 1999 as an assistant professor in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages. She holds a “Maîtrise” with distinction in English Language and British Civilization from the Université de Caen, France; an M.A. in French Studies from the University of Massachusetts; and a Ph.D. in French Studies from the University of Connecticut.
