The Institute for Sustainable Energy at Eastern Connecticut State University was established in 2001 to identify, develop, and implement the means for achieving a sustainable energy future. The Institute focuses on matters relating to public policy, conservation and load management, efficient and renewable distributed generation, protection of environmental resources, and the dissemination of useful information on energy alternatives and sustainability to users and providers of energy. The Institute adds an unbiased focus on practical applications and dissemination of information about how to improve the energy profile and sustainability of the region.
The Institute's Mission is "…to identify, develop and become an objective energy and educational resource regarding the means for achieving a sustainable energy future."
The Institute's Core Activities:
- Provide Educational Outreach
- Lead K-12 energy education curriculum development and implementation initiatives
- Provide seminars, workshops and symposiums for professional development to the energy industry
- Create a certification program to prepare individuals for careers in theenergy industry
- Become a Clearinghouse and Resource for Energy Sustainability Information
- Develop, maintain, and make available,energy sustainability information on the Institute's Website
- Develop, maintain, and make available, energy resource mapping on the Institute's GIS system
- Collect, maintain, and make available, a comprehensive energy information resource library
- Assist in the development of Public Policy
- Conduct public information forums on energy and sustainability issues
- Facilitate roundtable discussions with industry experts on energy and sustainability issues
- Coordinate studies on regional energy sustainability issues and applications
- Provide assistance in developing Energy Solutions
- Assist communities in the development of sustainable energy plans
- Develop a model for University energy and environmental sustainability
- Develop and make available models for sustainability and renewable energy applications
