Use
of Computer Systems

- Library
patrons are encouraged to use Library computer systems and Internet
resources in accordance with the Library's educational and research
mission.
- Library
privileges are extended to all ECSU students, faculty, staff, and
alumni and are available to residents of Connecticut 18 years of
age or older upon presentation of identification.(1) Use of
Library computer services by the general public is based upon availability
of public access workstations and the discretion of Library staff.
- Students,
faculty, and staff of Eastern Connecticut State University have
priority in use of Library computer workstations. Academic work
takes precedence over all other uses of the computers.
- It
is unacceptable to use these resources for the following:
- Violation
of United States or Connecticut law including copyright laws and
licensing agreements
- Downloading
of text files, software, executable files, databases and similar
"live" technology to library disk drives.
- Modification
or destruction of Library hardware, software or data including display
and desktop configurations
- Downloading
of computer viruses
- Using
connect time or printing resources excessively
- Harassment
of other Library users including the intrusive display of graphics
which may reasonably be construed as offensive
- Attempted
evasion of system and network security measures
- The
Library reserves the right to regularly delete files from system
and network hard drives.
- The
Library reserves the right to impose time limitations on the use
of Library computing resources.
- The
Library assumes no responsibility for damages, direct or indirect,
arising from the use if its computer and network facilities.
Internet
Resources
- The
determination of the accuracy and completeness of information resources
obtained through the Internet is the sole responsibility of the
user.
- Resources
on the Internet may contain material of a controversial nature.
The Library does not attempt to control access to nor content of
material on the Internet.
- Although
the Library Web pages identify specific links as starting points
for Internet research, the Library cannot control Internet access
points because of the rapid and unpredictable changes of Internet
addresses.
- The
Library subscribes to the Statement on Internet Filtering adopted
by the Connecticut Library Association Executive Board on March 11, 1999.
Violations
- Library
patrons violating any portion of this policy will be advised of
the appropriate section and asked to comply.
- The
Library reserves the right to terminate network access for patrons
who repeat a violation after a previous warning.
- The
Library reserves the right to prohibit violators from future access
to or use of the Library's online services.
