FINDING EBOOKS
What are eBooks?
They are electronic versions of printed books. eBooks can be viewed online from any PC connected to the Internet.
eBooks Subscribed to by J. Eugene Smith Library:

NetLibrary (Found in our list of databases A - Z, under "N")
An interdisciplinary collection of over 4,400 electronic books, purchased as a shared collection with NELINET member libraries.
Setting up an account with NetLibrary:
(An account lets you create a list of Favorites, make notes in individual full-text eContent items, and customize your account preferences)
1) Go to www.netLibrary.org
2) Link to "Create a Free Account" at top of page
3) Fill in required information
4) Select the "Create Account" button at bottom/left of page
5) The username and password created will be the login information to access your account
Searching NetLibrary:
Browse the list of all eBooks by selecting "eBooks" under "In Our Collection" in box at top, right from the NetLibrary Homepage.
Search the Full Text of the book or do a Keyword, Title, Author, or Subject search by selecting from the drop down and typing terms in the box.
Search Tip: The Keyword option searches for your terms in the title, author, Library of Congress subject heading, publisher, and ISBN fields. There is also the option of using the Advanced Search screen.
Select "View this eBook" when you find the desired book. Select from either the "Table of Contents" at left, select "Next", or type in a page number to proceed to a desired page. Continue to select "Next" to view the next page.
Select "Help" at top, right for a complete list of topics to answer questions about NetLibrary.
Finding eBooks in our library catalog/CONSULS:
Author Search: From CONSULS "Author" search option, select "Search ECSU " from the drop down. Type in NetLibrary as the author. Click Submit to get a list of all the eBooks in CONSULS. Select "An electronic book accessible through the World Wide Web: click for information" to access the eBook.

Project Gutenberg is the first and largest single collection of free electronic books.
View a list of the top 100 eBooks recently downloaded from Project Gutenberg.
The Encyclopedia of World History and The Harvard Classics are among many free texts offered as well as many classic reference works.
More than 2,000 free classic texts and research works.

Shakespeare's plays which can be read either as a continuous text or by individual scenes. Read online in HTML.
A site from the University of Pennsylvania that lists over 25,000 free eBooks on the Web.
From Oxford University. High-quality, electronic texts for research and teaching. More than 2,500 resources in over 25 different languages. A good academic resource. Public domain texts are freely available from the on-line catalog and may be downloaded in a number of different formats. Some texts require the user to obtain the written permission of the original depositor. Ability to search for words and phrases within some texts. Must read agreement and terms of use.
Pennsylvania State University Electronic Classics Site: " The Labyrinth"
The e-books are presented as .pdf files (Adobe's Portable Document Format). Read them with the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Established in 1997, the site offers many classical works of literature in English, plus original works published by Penn. State University.
A great classical digital library site with Greek & Latin texts, commentaries, an atlas, coin images, art, archaeology and more.
