You are writing a term paper; it is getting close to the deadline, and the words are not
flowing. A couple of the sources you found say it so much better than you ever could,
so you just copy a few key paragraphs into your paper - you tell yourself that your professor
will never know the difference. All of a sudden, the words start flowing and you end up with
the best paper you have ever written. You decide your paper won't work without those
paragraphs, so you keep them.

Respond to the following questions:

  • How do you feel about this?

  • Do you think you have done anything illegal? Why or why not?

  • Do you think you have done anything unethical? Why or why not?

  • Is there a term or phrase to describe what you have done?

  • What could you have done differently?

Take a look at the ECSU Student Handbook: Cheating and Plagiarism and consider the following:

  • Why do you think ECSU has such a policy?

  • Do you think the policy outlines a fair expectation of ECSU students?
