CONSULS - This is where you can find books, print journals (magazines), & media (videos, DVDs, music CDs, etc) in the library's collection by using the online catalog called CONSULS. When you search CONSULS, you are actually searching the collections of Eastern (E), as well as Western CT State University (W), Central CT State University (C), Southern CT State University (S), and the CT State Library (SL). You can limit your searches to just Eastern. Or - you can request materials from the other libraries, which arrive in about 3-5 days. Ask at the reference desk for more help in searching or requesting materials.
You can search by keyword (try "motion pictures" or "film" or "movies"), or by subject. Subjects are pre-determined vocabulary used to search the catalog.

Browse for Books in the Stacks (Floor 3 and Reference books on Floor 2)
We organize our library collection by the Library of Congress Classification System. Most of the books relating to film and cinema are in the classes:
PN 1990-1999 Motion Pictures
Journal Titles for Browsing
You'll find current issues of these titles and more in our current periodical reading room (Floor 2).
How to Find Media (videos, DVDs, CDs, etc.)
Looking for a particular film on video or DVD, or a recording for a track bed? Start a keyword search for your subject in CONSULs - use the "Advanced" search tab. Put in your keyword(s), then limit to a "Material Type" of sound recording, video, etc. for the format you're seeking. You can also limit your search to just items at ECSU from the "Location" menu on the advanced keyword search screen. You can always ask for help at the Reference Desk too.
MUSIC RECORDINGS - The Library has created "Browseable Music CD Catalogs" of our music CD collection. One set is at the Reference Desk on the second floor, and one set is on a table near the Reserve Desk, across from the video/DVD shelving on the second floor. These are 4-volume sets of indexes the library created for genre browsing access to our music CD collection, which is kept behind the Circulation Desk and therefore not visible for casual browsing. The cover of each volume indicates the categories included in that volume (opera, jazz, classical, etc.) Each category of music is separated by dividers and is alphabetical by performer or composer. There is a sheet for each of our music CDs with cover art (when available), CD title, disc contents (when available) and our local call number. As always, one can still search for specific music CDs in our online catalog (CONSULS) by composer, title, subject or keyword.
