Eastern Connecticut State University's Dr. Dennis C. Canterbury
Dr. Dennis C. Canterbury is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Eastern Connecticut State University's in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work. He is also the Vice President of the New York African Studies Association. He was born in New Amsterdam, Guyana. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Political Science at the University of Guyana in 1982, a Masters Degree, Specializing in Economic Development at the Consortium Graduate School, The University of the West Indies, Mona Jamaica in 1988, a second Masters Degree in International Development Studies at Saint Mary's University, Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1996, and a Ph.D. in Sociology, specializing in development and labor studies, at Binghamton University, New York in 2000. His recently published book is Neoliberal Democratization and New Authoritarianism, published December 2004 by Ashgate Publishing in Williston, Vermont. A quote from the publisher: "Anyone interested in development politics and political sociology will draw...insights...from this original study." Dr. Canterbury has won the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Award at Eastern Connecticut State University in 2004, and the Men Achieving Leadership Excellence Success (M.A.L.E.S.) Advisor Award in 2004, and a Certificate of Appreciation from M.A.L.E.S. in 2002.
