SEARCH THE LIBRARY CATALOG (CONSULS) FOR ART HISTORY RESOURCES
CONSULS - This is where you can find books, print journals (magazines), & media (videos, DVDs, music CDs, etc) in the library's collection by using the online catalog called CONSULS. When you search CONSULS, you are searching the collections of Eastern, as well as Western CT State University, Central CT State University, Southern CT State University, and the CT State Library. You can limit your searches to just Eastern. Or - you can request materials from the other libraries, which arrive in about 3-5 days. Ask at the reference desk for more help in searching or requesting materials.
You can search by keyword, or by subject. Subjects are pre-determined vocabulary used to search the catalog.

We organize our library collection by the Library of Congress Classification System. Most of the books relating to art history are in the classes:
Subclass N - Visual Arts
N5300 - 7418 Visual Arts History
NX440 - 632 History of the arts
NX650 - 694 Special subjects, characters, persons, religious arts, etc.

Looking for information about a particular artist, artistic movement, or painting in general on video or DVD? Start an "Advanced Keyword" search for your subject in CONSULS. Choose a "Material Type" of DVD, video, etc. for the format you're seeking. You can always ask for help at the Reference Desk.
