Finding journal articles:

 

Find articles by searching a database that indexes literature about and related to Environmental Earth Science (EES).  From the library home page click on the link titled Databases (journal articles, images, etc.) . The Complete A – Z List of Databases on the ensuing page lists all the databases for which Smith Library pays to have access.  The databases are listed alphabetically by title.  Some useful databases for EES research include:

• Energy Citations - For energy and related scientific disciplines, including environmental science and geology, from U.S. Department of Energy
• GEOBASE - Indexes worldwide literature on geology, geography, and ecology
• GeoRef - Indexes journal articles, books, maps, and other material in the geosciences
• ScienceDirect - Citations and some full-text articles in many areas of science and technology
• Science Full Text Select - Full-text articles in the sciences, including earth science
• Science Reference Center - Full-text database covering the sciences, including earth and environmental sciences

 

General article databases that might be useful for EES include:

• Academic Search Premier (EbscoHost) - Journal coverage for diverse areas of study, including earth science and other scientific disciplines; many full-text articles
• First Search - Includes ArticleFirst, a database that indexes articles in a variety of subjects, including the sciences
• JSTOR - An archive of scholarly journals in a variety of subjects, including the sciences

 

Citations vs. Full-text: The above databases might include citations (references to articles), abstracts of articles, and/or the complete article (the full-text).  If you do not find the full-text in electronic form right way, save the citations and then use the ECSU Journal Locator .  This tool lists all journals that are available to Smith Library researchers, whether in print in our periodical collection or online in our subscription databases.  For online/electronic sources, follow the links to the right volume and issue.

 

EES journals in print:

 

Current issues of journals and magazines are shelved on the second (main) floor of the library, while older issues are on the first floor, just past the Curriculum Center.  The older issues either are bound (like a book) or are on microfiche or microfilm.  In all instances, they are shelved or are in cabinets in alphabetical order by the title of the publication.

These e-journals can be accessed by using CONSULS, the CSU system online catalog.  Do a “Journal Title” search on the e-journal title, then follow the links.
