Anthropology Resources @ Smith Library

The following sources provide authoritative information and starting points for research on Anthropology. This list is not intended to be comprehensive, but rather a first step. The reference staff is always pleased to assist in the use of any of the library's resources and services.

CONSULS - This is where you can find books, journal & magazine titles (NOT individual articles), & media (DVDs, CDs, videos) in the library's collection by using the online catalog, CONSULS.

Research Databases - You can find articles, many in full-text, by searching in our subscription research databases. In addition to articles, these databases include references to book reviews and essays that are included in anthologies. This is usually a better place to start academic research than a general web search engine, such as Google or Yahoo.

Reference Resources – Encyclopedias, dictionaries and other reference books can be a good place to start a research project. They are designed to provide authoritative information and they can give you an overview of a new or unfamiliar topic. They can provide a bibliography of sources for further research, too.

Websites of Interest for Anthropology – There is a lot of interesting information on the web, but also a lot of misinformation which you do not want to use in an academic research project. Examine your web resources carefully - here are a few recommended sites to start with. Follow this link for help in evaluating websites.
