| Database Search Tip | MLA is a good database to search if you need to locate sources to discuss or support a theme in an author's work, or in a genre or time period. For example, you could find articles written on the treatment of women in Shakespeare, or on novels written during the 20th century. MLA is also a good resource for critical analysis of an author's work, and trends in the arts and humanities. A search may begin with the name of the novel, play, etc. and a theme such as feminism or dreams. |
| Notes | This interface searches both MLA International Bibliography and the MLA Directory of Periodicals. The Directory contains information for over 7,000 language, literature and folklore journals and series, 4,000 of which are currently indexed in the MLA International Bibliography database. MLA International Bibliography contains the actual articles; the Directory provides editorial, subscription and advertising information, submission guidelines and a description of the periodical's scope. |
