Principal Investigator: Dr. Lyndsey K. Lanagan-Leitzel
Lab Location: Goddard 212

My research interests are diverse. My primary program of research stems from my graduate training in visual attention within the field of cognitive psychology. I investigate visual surveillance (monitoring ongoing visual input for a target event) in lifeguarding. Lifeguards must quickly detect and respond to drowning incidents and patrons who are distressed (experiencing difficulty, could drown) in order to prevent injury or death. My work provides a critical bridge between the science of visual cognition and the practice of lifeguarding.

I am also collaborating with colleagues on several different projects that are in various stages of completion. These include:

  • Creating and evaluating the effectiveness of several online Research Methods tutorials (Alita Cousins, Madeleine Fugère)
  • Examining threat detection differences among lactating and non-lactating mothers and non-mothers (collaboration with The Evolutionary Psychology Lab)

Students who wish to work as a research assistant in my laboratory or conduct an independent study project under my supervision should email me at lanaganleitzell@easternct.edu.
