Departmental Honors

The psychology department has created a departmental honors program to be presented in the Spring for graduates. Below are the criteria:

High Distinction requires the satisfaction of the following criteria:

  1. Completion of both PSY 227 (Statistics) and PSY 247 (Research Methods I) with a grade of A- or better.
  2. A GPA within the Psychology major of 3.5 or higher.
  3. An overall GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  4. Completion of one of the following:
    • PSY 480 (Independent Study)
    • PSY 490 (Teaching Assistantship)
    • PSY 491 (Research Assistantship)
  5. Presentation of (or acceptance to present) a first-author/co-author research project at a CSU Psychology Day.  This does NOT include Psychological Science Night or the CREATE research conferences.

Highest Distinction requires satisfaction of the above criteria as well as scoring at the 80th percentile or higher (compared to national norms) on the pre-graduation Exit Exam and presentation of (or acceptance to present) a first-author/co-author research project at a State/Regional/National Conference.

Students who meet Criteria 1 – 3 will be contacted to verify that they have completed Criteria 4 and 5.
