Lecture/Lab
- An overview looking at visual aesthetics and communication with digital photography; focusing on the perceptual impact that images have on audience experience.
- Explore the use of images in photojournalism as well as marketing. Lecture topics include a brief history of the concepts theories, discoveries and inventions that have led to the current evolution of photography.
- Labs explore the principles of digital imaging and camera operation; image pre-conceptualization, lighting considerations, workflow process and archiving procedures.
- Retouching adjustments, special effects and final presentation considerations regarding images for web or print publication. Assignments include research regarding photojournalistic and marketing perspectives as well as ethical and copyright considerations.
Course Objectives:
- Prepare students with an understanding of the tools and terminology of photographic digital media.
- Students gain a working knowledge of advanced digital camera controls; understand and employ methods and procedures to preserve digital work archives, the ability to use Photoshop for advanced retouching and color correction of images.
- Understanding of the various types of images, their qualities and application for printing, digital presentation and web publication.
- Enable students to achieve their desired visual expression with digital photography. Prepare students for advanced photography studies and/or entry level positions at news media publications requiring photographic skills.
