Research and Writing is a required course for History, History/American Studies, and History and Social Science Majors. It is limited to 15 students. Several sections are offered each semester. Plan to take it in your sophomore year. Its primary goals are to teach basic skills needed to do well in upper-level history courses, including library research skills, effective use of the www, recognizing basic historical sources, reading, historical analysis, writing, and style matters, including proper footnote and bibliography styles. The course has no specific historical content, but examples are drawn from a wide variety of history. HIS 200 also satisfies the University Writing Competency Requirement W 050 with a B or better. |
