Dr. Theresa M. Picard received her PhD in 2001 from the University
of Connecticut, Storrs. Prior to joining the Eastern faculty in 2001, she
had ten years of teaching experience both at the university and elementary
levels. While working on her doctorate, she served as an adjunct professor
at three Connecticut universities teaching courses in the areas of reading-language
arts and early childhood education. She spent five years at the elementary
level during which time she taught first through the fourth grade. At Eastern
Connecticut State University, she teaches primarily literacy courses in
early childhood education. In addition, she teaches the introduction course
to early childhood education. Her research focuses on language/literacy development
and reading/writing methodology. She has presented her research at many
national conferences, including the National Reading Conference (NRC) and
the International Reading Association (IRA). She is an active participant
in the National Association for the Education of the Young Child (NAEYC),
NRC, IRA and many other national and international professional organizations. |
