Google Local

The original Google Local and Google Maps have combined to provide an even more addictive map search service.

AOL Local Search Includes member reviews, AOL CityGuide entries, and directions.  May not be as feature rich as some of the others here.
Atlas - fresh logic studios Maps and hybrid satelite pictures.  Search, get directions and arial views.
Yahoo! Local Maps

Generate a local maps and produce driving directions.  Uses Macromedia Flash.

a9.com Maps Street-level views of storefronts.  Also includes maps, driving directions, and Yellow Page searches.  Still in beta.
Ask.com "Play Directions" feature steps you through turns in your trip.  Nice satellite pictures.

SOFTWARE

(Free software that has impressed Steve!)
PrimoPDF Free.  Creates PDF files with without pop-up ads, restrictions or watermarks and it automatically generates hyperlinks.  Per Kevin, "It isn’t as powerful as Acrobat Pro, but is more user-friendly than PDF 995. It does lack some of PDF 995’s extended features, but the reality is most of those who I know use it don’t use those features anyway."
SpamBayes Free.  This Bayesian anti-spam filter continually "learns" what you consider spam to be.  You must be using the full version of Outlook (not the Express version).   See my Taming Your PC article.
Lookout Free.  Search and instantly find anything you have in Outlook and on your PC's hard drives and network drives in seconds!  (Thanks Kevin for sharing this link!)   See my Taming Your PC article.
Microsoft's Photo Story 3

Free.  Do you have a collection of pictures sitting around on your PC?  Turn them into a captivating movie complete with panning and music and/or narration--all for free!  Here's a Photo Story 3 example that I made of a trip to one of my timeshares (broadband required).

Free.  Open, edit, create, and save MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel from any browser. Also converts documents to PDF format.  Free account requires an email address for registration and gives you 30 MB of storage space along with full functionality.

WayBackMachine Travel back in time!  Surf past instances of Eastern's website (or your favorite website) as far back as 1996.  Visit the Wayback Machine and enter Eastern's old URL (www.ecsu.ctstateu.edu) to see the site as far back as June 1997.   To surf past instances of our new domain going back to October 2000, enter www.easternct.edu.  Eastern's web site no longer looks like it did back then... thank Kevin Gill for his leadership on our web site project when you see him!
