The Urban Ecologist
Project Wonderwise is a nationally-acclaimed, award-winning program that highlights the research of ecologists in a variety of ecosystems in order to teach 4th-6th graders about plants, animals and the environment. Project Wonderwise is funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and directed by Dr. Judy Diamond of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln - Field Museum of Natural History. The Nebraska Television Network films and produces the series.

Dr. Carmen R. Cid is the fifth researcher to be profiled in this series, focusing on her research in urban wetlands in Connecticut. "The Urban Ecologist" program consists of:

a.) a video that illustrates Dr. Cid's research in Eastern's Arboretum Pond, forest, and Eaton's Pond wetland regarding factors that affect plant species diversity and abundance in these habitats (a nature sounds activity focusing on wetlands is included in the video - related Connecticut wetland projects are also highlighted)

b.) a booklet of detailed ecology classroom activities, based on the research experiments Dr. Cid conducts in her field sites, to teach students about urban wetland ecology (supplies needed are included in the science kit, along with Dr. Cid's biographical profile)

c.) a CD-ROM disk, with video clips and interactive science activities, in both Spanish and English, to show students the variety of organisms and species-interactions associated with Connecticut's urban wetlands
