Objectives: Provides you with a chance to work on a research project. You can start as early as freshman year and spend as little or as much time as you have available. You can sign up for this as early as your Freshman year, see the catalog for details. An independent study with me will usually involve working on some aspect of the genetics and cell biology of the green alga Chlamydomonas. After consultation with me, and looking at the range of problems available, you will pick one to work on. You will get trained in any techniques you will need to work on the project and then I will expect you to set a work schedule. We will meet at least once a week, to look at results and discuss future experiments. Whenever possible. I will expect you to present the results of your work at a meeting. Projects have ranged from a single semester to over three years in length.
