Grading Policy | ||
The final course grade in Bio 221 will be based on combined lecture (67%) and laboratory (33%) grades. You must pass both the lecture and laboratory components to pass the course. Lecture grades will be determined from three lecture exams and a cumulative final exam (100 pts each), plus periodic quizzes*. The laboratory grade will be based on written reports, quizzes, participation, and demonstration of appropriate laboratory skills.
* Approximately once a week you may be quizzed on specific, fundamental information. You will be expected to know this information precisely as shown. The quizzes will be pass/fail (i.e., full credit or a zero) and will cumulatively equal one lecture exam. Note: These quizzes will cover fundamental information you must know, but this is not the only important information covered in the course. Regular lecture exams may ask about this material (possibly in more detail), and will also ask about the other topics covered in class.
Records of class attendance and participation may be used to decide final course grades in borderline cases. Grades on written assignments will be reduced by 20% for each day the assignment is late. Assignments turned in more than four days late will receive a grade of zero. All laboratory assignments must be turned in (no matter how late) in order to receive a passing laboratory grade. Any infringement of the University's Academic Misconduct Code will result in a reduction of grade.
