James trained with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and at LAMDA. He has worked in the theatre throughout Great Britain. He spent three years with the Royal Shakespeare Company, where his parts included, Gratiano, in the Merchant of Venice, Lysander, in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Richmond, in Richard III. James has worked for Kenneth Branagh’s, Renaissance Theatre Company playing, Titus Lartius, in Coriolanus at Chichester and Sir Andrew Aguecheek, in Twelfth Night. At the Royal National Theatre he played in Alan Ayckbourn’s, Mr. A’s Amazing Maze Plays. He appeared as Jack Absolute, in The Rivals at Chichester and in the West End and played Kipps in, The Woman in Black. James played The Player King in Sir Trevor Nunn’s production of, ‘Hamlet’ at the Old Vic. For Tour de Force, he has played the title roles in Vortigern, Henry V, Macbeth and Benedick, in Much Ado About Nothing. James played over 1000 performances as ‘Scar’ in Disney’s, ‘The Lion King,’ at the Lyceum Theatre. He played Elyot in Noel Coward’s, ‘Private Lives’ on a UK tour, for which he was nominated: MTA ‘Best Actor 2011’, Claudius in ‘Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead’ and Alonzo in, ‘The Tempest’, in Chichester and the West End, directed by Sir Trevor Nunn. He played, Sir William Eden, in ‘A Marvellous Year For Plums’ by Hugh Whitemore at Chichester. On television James was seen in many shows including, ‘The Professionals’, ‘Rumpole of the Bailey’, ‘The Bill’, ‘Hannay’, ‘Just William’, BBC Shakespeare Series, ‘Silent Witness’, ‘Grown Up’s’ and as Adam Hope in CITV’s ‘Animal Ark’. He played DC Collins in Lynda la Plante’s ‘Trial and Retribution’ and was Dr. Thompson in EastEnders. His film credits include, Champmatieu in the Oscar nominated, Les Miserables, Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Henry V’ , ‘The Whistleblower’ and ‘Blue Ice’ with Michael Caine. James worked as a director both here and in the U.S.A. He was an Assistant Director of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain for 4 years and Associate Artistic Director of Tour de Force for 5 years. His directing credits include ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, ‘The Mysteries’ and ‘Maria Marten – The Murder in the Red Barn’ (USA) and A Midsummer Nights Dream (Arundel Festiva)l. He was assistant director on Handel’s ‘Xerxes’ ( Iford Arts) and directed, La Traviata for Pop Up Opera.
