This hand-woven tapestry with over 600 colors and a variety of fibers, displays controlled use of texture and bold colors.  Hernmark, trained in the methods of traditional European tapestry in Sweden, presents Open Door, Open Book as a metaphor for the library.  The library opens doors for anyone who wants to learn and points the way to the widening horizon of possibilities and ideas visible through the open binding.  Notably, fiber art was specifically chosen to pay tribute to the city of Willimantic and its historic association within the textile industry.
