Hope for the 21st Century by Michael G. Borders (1999) Curriculum Center, J. Eugene Library

This modest hand-painted print, with African-inspired motifs, explores larger themes around the softness and playfulness of these two children.  Hope for the 21st Century advances the vision of children growing up in a secure, just, educated, economically sound, healthy society with a strong sense of self and heritage.  The placement of this work in the Curriculum Center, which houses teaching resources and children’s literature, emphasizes the importance of literacy and education in the achievement of such wholeness.
