Top U.S. Mental Health Official Speaks at Eastern’s 128th Commencement

Eastern alumna Elinore McCance-Katz, assistant secretary for mental health and substance use in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), told the graduates and their families at Eastern’s 128th Commencement exercises that the current opioid crisis facing the United States is “the nation’s greatest medical challenge since the AIDS epidemic of the 1990s. It is a tragedy of major proportions, and we need to work together to help those addicted get treatment and recover from this disease.”  Continue reading

Psychology Professor Carlos Escoto Elected to CUR Executive Board

Carlos Escoto, professor of psychology, chair of the Department of Psychlogical Sciences, and coordinator of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities, has been elected to the executive board of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR). A member of CUR’s Psychology Division, Escoto will begin his three-year term on July 1.  Continue reading

Summer Research Institutes Expose Students to New Fields of Inquiry

Eastern held three inaugural Summer Research Institutes from May 14–18 to engage promising and high-achieving students in intensive, weeklong research programs pertaining to the fields of new media, network science and English.
