SUOAF Chapter Vice President John Bazin and Covenant Vice Chair Ray Aramini rejoice in the money raised for the Covenant Soup Kitchen.

Eastern’s chapter of the State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF) raised $4,050 for the Covenant Soup Kitchen this holiday season. Local chapter members raised $1,025 at their annual holiday party on Dec. 13, with a $1,000 match by SUOAF, followed by a $2,025 anonymous match for the grand total of $4,050.

“We’re approaching 2 million meals served since COVID,” said Ray Aramini, vice chair of the soup kitchen’s board of directors and coach of Eastern’s club rugby team. “Unlike a lot of nonprofits, our services have expanded since COVID. Every dollar is an imperative. Feeding hungry people is very important and something that can’t be taken in a cavalier way.”

“Our members have deep roots in the community,” said John Bazin, associate registrar and vice president of Eastern’s SUOAF chapter. “Our members recognize that we’re stronger by helping our neighbors, and that there’s no better way to help than to support people in need. Covenant is an (exemplary) organization and we’re proud to continue our association.”

SUOAF was founded in 1977 to represent administrative faculty at Connecticut’s four state universities. Eastern’s chapter contains approximately 160 members who run more than 30 offices on campus, from the Health Services to Student Activities.
