The Sisterhood project is a stress prevention program for at risk high school females using nontraditional approaches to stress management and mentoring. At risk female students participated in an 8 week program consisting of physical, cognitive and experiential models of stress management and reduction. The program was implemented by female college students who served as program leaders and mentors. Reported measures of increases awareness about stress, use of stress management techniques and resiliency were assessed before and after participation in the project.
This project will be offered in the Fall 2010. ECSU female students will be asked to apply for 15 positions available as "Big Sisters" to at risk girls from the residential school "Journey House" located on Natchaug Hospital campus.
