Sorry for not catching everyone up the past two weeks, once again I'll have to do 2 in 1...
Last weekend (April 2) we were at Coast Guard for the typical windy weather their right-on-the-water track always presents us with. Despite the wind there were some outstanding performances! Amanda Quinones qualified for DIII New England's and ECAC's in the 5k, beating her personal best by over a minute. Her performance also earned her LEC Athlete of the Week. Cora Gingras qualified in the triple jump and finally Amy Huhn in the pole vault whose performance earned her LEC Rookie of the Week honors.
Many of us broke our personal bests in our events, the most exciting in my opinion was Haley Smith who broke her PR in the 5k by almost a minute. Haley had the most intense look on her face throughout the whole race, and we were all VERY proud of her!
Maggie Gibeault set an outdoor PR in the pole vault besting last year's outdoor best by over a foot. Devaney Henderson and Sarah Krulicki both set a personal best in EVERY throwing event they participated in! Awesome day for both of them! It was also notable, that freshman Tacia Bryant made her first appearance of the year racing in the 400.
Not a bad day overall considering the wind and less than perfect temperatures.
This past weekend (April 9th) we competed at Wesleyan at a non-scoring and pretty small meet compared to most of the meets we attend. The weather was FABULOUS, sunny and warm, but not too warm!
First for our qualifiers: Maggie Gibeault qualified for DIII New England's in pole vault, vaulting just over 9 feet (a personal best) and tying teammate Amy Huhn for a first place finish. Amy also PRed in the 200.
In other news... Lauren Hultzman, who was already qualified for DIII New England's, beat her PR in high jump, jumping 5-1. Brittany Lane and Amanda Ericson debuted in the 3000m steeplechase, a grueling race with water pits and barriers to jump over. Both ran very respectable debut times. On a warm day you'd think the water would be refreshing, but if you saw how dirty the water was, you'd understand why they were not refreshed at all!
Devaney Henderson once again PR'ed in javelin, discus and shot; 3 out of 4 of her events.
Katherine Tomasco cut off another second from her 400 time. She has cut her time down almost four seconds in the past three weeks.
Many of the distance girls ran the 3k, a rare event to be run outdoors (it is usually only run indoor and is not a championship event at any level). PRs (based off indoor times) were seen by Melissa Healy, Katie France, Alexa Palasky and Haley Smith.\
The many PR's are thanks to the nice weather and some great workouts we've had lately!
We run at Eastern this Friday. It is supposed to be sunny and around 60 degrees, a great day for a track meet. Field events start at 3:30, running at 4. Hope to see you there!!!
