After a seven-week layoff, Eastern's men's indoor track and field program was back running, and jumping its way to success at the Coast Guard Academy in New London.
Individual and team performances sparked the Warriors throughout the day. Nick Pates performed at top speed cruising to a victory in the 400 and a third place finish in the 200. The sprinting relays of the 4x200 and 4x400 fed off the electric feel from their teammates in their strong performances. However, the most exciting event of the day was the mile. Although in separate heats, Nick Miller and Ken Landry were inseparable in their finishing times.
Also to be noted, Stephen White accomplished a career first by breaking the five-minute barrier in the mile on a slow track, posting a 4:58 finishing time!! Not to be forgotten in the field events, Alex Verrill finished a strong second in the high jump, contributing a significant amount of points to Eastern's tally.
Eastern is back on the track again next Saturday at Springfield College...a last chance for many to meet the requiring seed times for the Little East Conferences Championships on Feb. 12
