Well, we finally got to play our first games, and now they are coming fast and furious!
We started on a great note with a convincing victory over Berkeley College of New York Friday in our first game in front of a great crowd. We knew coming into the final on Saturday that it was going to be a battle against SUNY Purchase, and it definitely was. We did not play as well as we had hoped in the first half and fell behind, but we regrouped at halftime and came out charging in the second half. We erased the deficit and then went back and forth with them right until the end. Unfortunately, some clutch plays on their part and missed opportunities on our part led to a very tough 1-point loss.
Although it certainly did not end the way we wanted it to, there was a lot of good and promise that came out of that first weekend, as everyone played very hard throughout and we worked well together as a team overall. Nick Nedwick and Jamie Kohn were named to the all-tournament team, but there were contributions from everyone that led to us coming within a bucket of winning the tournament.
Although it was difficult, we knew we had to move on from our loss and focus on bouncing back on Tuesday against a very good Trinity team, and we certainly did. Although we again had to come from behind, we stayed together throughout the game and kept coming at them until the end. The game went down to the wire again, but this time we made the clutch plays to pull out a five-point win. Again, this was a great team-effort and everyone contributed, but we were especially happy to see Chris Robitaille and Mike Garrow come off the bench and break out with some huge contributions!
Well, now we're at 2-1 and have a chance to improve to 4-1 in the next two days with back-to-back home games on Sunday at 1 p.m. against The College of New Jersey, and on Monday at 7:30 against Connecticut College, whom we beat in overtime last season.
Hope to see you at the games and talk to you soon!
