Hey all, Cakes here!
We had an interesting week this past week. We had an entire week of practices without a game which we have not had this entire season. All those practices were in preparation for the Rhode Island College showdown this past Saturday.
The meeting with RIC was just like any other, it consisted with hard play and a lot of hard fouls. The game was a tale of two halves for us. We spent the first half (going against the heavy winds) defending, and came out with a 1-0 deficit. But in the second half, we came out much more compsed and played our style. We battled back to tie the game (Tommy Vear had his second career goal off a beautiful assist from Mike Radlbeck) and had a few opportunities to get a game-winner.
It was a good result to go into Providence and come away with one point in the Little East despite all the injuries accumulated from RIC's physical play. I myself, re-injured my left knee during pregame warmups on the wet field. Other notable injuries include those to Matt Furman, Corey Tobler, and Romaro Johnson, all on fouls from the opposing side. But all in all, it was a good result for our side.
Other positives that occurred on Saturday was that we participated in the Relay-For-Life after our game. As a team, we walked the baseball field where the event took place and raised over $1,000 dollars for the fight against cancer.
We'd also like to congratulate the women's soccer team on all of the success they've had so far, being undefeated this year and being ranked No. 1 in New England this year.
That is all for this week. Keep checking back in week-to-week!
