Willimantic, Conn. - Steve Buchanan of Winsted, will speak at Eastern Connecticut State University for its University Hour presentation at 3 p.m. on Nov. 9 in the Paul E. Johnson Sr. Community Conference Room. The public is invited. Admission is free.
Buchanan, a scientific illustrator, will display his artwork and describe how he creates his illustrations by computer.
Buchanan was a concert pianist at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and a professor before he found his second calling as an artist. The majority of his work involves subjects from botany, horticulture, natural history and wildlife. Buchanan's art has appeared on book and magazine covers, posters, T-shirt designs, advertisements, product packaging and US postage stamps. His work has also been exhibited at the Norman Rockwell Museum, the Hunt Institute and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
