Willimantic, CT -- Percussionist, composer and conductor Peter Jarvis will visit EasternConnecticutStateUniversity to lecture and perform at on Oct. 21 in Shafer Auditorium. The public is invited. Admission is free.
Jarvis's lecture and recital will focus on multiple solo percussion pieces. Instruments include snare drum, drum set and vibraphone, as well as electronic media. "Pete is an excellent performer and a passionate advocate of contemporary music," said Anthony Cornicello, professor of music at Eastern. "I'm sure this is going to be an exciting event."
Jarvis is an advocate of contemporary music and has been involved in New York City's percussion and new music communities for many years. He has conducted and performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Talujon Percussion Quartet, the Group for Contemporary Music and The New York Art Ensemble, among others. He has toured throughout Europe, Asia, Mexico, Canada and the United States. He also directs the new music series at ConnecticutCollege and WilliamPatersonUniversity.
