Cuban Art to Kick-Off Lecture Series at Eastern

Willimantic, Conn. - Gail Gelburd, writer, artist and professor of visual arts at Eastern Connecticut State University, will kick off Eastern's 2009-10 University Hour Series on Sept. 9.  The presentation, which showcases her work, "Ajiaco: Stirrings of the Cuban Soul," begins at 3 p.m. in the Betty R. Tipton Room of the Student Center. Two Cuban artists whose works are part of the Ajiaco exhibition, will accompany Gelburd during her lecture and presentation.

"Ajiaco: Stirrings of the Cuban Soul" also will be exhibited at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London beginning Sept. 12 and running through Feb. 21, 2010.

Gelburd has served on numerous councils, including the University of Pennsylvania Press and the Lee, MA-based Council for Creative Projects.  She has taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York, Malloy College, Berkshire Community College and at Hofstra University, where she was also the museum director for more than 12 years.   Gelburd has also presented and lectured throughout the United States, Africa, Europe and Asia.
