Title: Communication Intern

Courtney Ojard, Communication major and recent graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University, held two internships while a student at Eastern.  Most recently, however, she held a post graduation intenship, at Otis Elevator Company as the Communications Intern for the North and South America Area.

Courtney was responsible for producing publications for Otis' North American business by providing content for their internal and external audiences on Otis' websites. She interviewed different Otis branches about recent contracts and elevator wins and then created stories that are posted internally within the United Technologies Corporation (UTC) network. Externally, she worked with the Marketing department to improve and create new pages that increased the visibility of Otis' latest product and service offerings. Skills she learned while on the job included managing several projects and her time effectively, while also learning about the product itself, and the competition.

She applied for this internship because she wanted to work for a large company. Working for one of UTC's business units has prepared her for the corporate world. She is also interested in writing and editing, which she did alot of at Otis.  She recently found out that her internship will be extended until December, and is excited about continuing to challenge herself and work hard.

Courtney's thoughts on internships..."I'm glad that Eastern required me to have one. Without my first internships I wouldn't have had any experience when searching for a job after graduation."  She feels that students should get as much experience as they can while in school, and that having an internships while in college helps to guide your career and guarantee success.
