Omar Rodriguez, a Business Administration major with a Management concentration, is climbing his way to the top in the business world. Omar was a Management Trainee Intern at Enterprise Rent-A-Car in both Rocky Hill and New Britain. Enterprise Rent-A-Car is an internationally recognized brand known for its low rental rates and exceptional customer service. Enterprise is the largest car rental brand in North America.

Omar found the internship through Experience.com. "I found it online then I spoke to a career counselor to see if they knew anything about the program. The program is well known and respectable so I took it." Omar's tasks as a Management Trainee Intern were sales, marketing to corporate clients, cleaning cars, picking up customers, being a liaison for the branch, and working with other branches when extra cars were needed.

"This opportunity was a great learning experience in terms of understanding the function of management. The internship was very hard and I had to work long hours, 10 hours a day every day of the week and some Saturdays." Omar started his internship in Rocky Hill, a smaller branch, but because of his outstanding performance he was promoted to New Britain, the largest branch in the greater Hartford area.

Though it was hard work, the incentives made the experience worthwhile. Through Enterprise's incentives points program, employees could attend a monthly retreat if they had accumulated enough points. One of the retreats was a Lake Compounce paid day trip. At the end of the three month internship period, all of the interns were compared on their overall performance. The top interns received cash prizes. Omar received a five-hundred dollar cash prize and was the overall top power point intern due to his success with sales.

Omar trained with three other Eastern Connecticut State University students and briefly worked with an Eastern alumnus from the class of 2009. Omar claims the most valuable part of interning at Enterprise was gaining a sense of patience. "Always be willing to fulfill customer wants and needs, make sure you always meet their standards. It's rewarding for them to be grateful for the work that you put in."

Omar is currently a Peer Counselor at Career Services. His first visit to Career Services was during his freshman year. Omar frequently seeks help and advice from the Career Services staff who have given him support through helping him build his resume, cover letters, and interview skills. Omar also interned at Career Services his junior year.

Omar has advice for students: "Come to career services. It's as simple as that. It's important for you to polish your resume, know how to do a cover letter and make sure you look presentable because chances are your first impression is going to make it or break it for you. It's important that you know how to market yourself and Career Services will help you achieve all of that."

            Congratulations on your success Omar!
