Smart Classrooms and Computer Labs

Classroom Technology

What Does A Smart Classroom Include?

At minimum, all smart classrooms on campus have:

  • a computer lectern
  • internet access
  • document camera
  • DVD player
  • laptop connections (which can be used in conjunction with..)
  • a ceiling-mounted projector for presenting material to a class

Some classrooms also include: SMART™ Podiums. 29 of Eastern’s general purpose smart classrooms now have SMART™ podiums as their display.  Of those 29 smart classrooms, 4 are also computer lab classrooms.

What’s a SMART™ Podium?

Smart Classroom with SMART™ Podium and Web Cam

Most general purpose classrooms have SMART™ Podiums as a display and a web cam. This provides faculty the ability to record their screens/powerpoint, as well as basic audio and video. Faculty can use Panopto to capture their lectures directly into their BlackBoard course. Note: Faculty can request a wireless microphone through Media Services for added audio capabilitites.

Smart Classroom with SMART™ Podium and Multi-Camera Lecture Capture Capability

Five (5) general purpose classrooms have upgraded lecture capture capabilities.
SCI 114, SCI 117, SCI 416, Webb 212, Webb214

They have a SMART™ Podiums as a display, a web cam at the podium and two wall mounted video cameras to capture classroom activity. Ceiling mounted microphones are installed to capture audio throughout the room. This setup provides faculty the ability to record their screens/powerpoint, as well as themselves and students during class. Faculty can use Panopto to capture their lectures directly into their BlackBoard course.

Computer Classrooms

Instructional computer classrooms at Eastern put a computer in front of each student. Each lab can accommodate a variety of needs. Software for different disciplines has been installed to create an all-purpose, yet specialized environment. Special requests are always considered, and special applications can be implemented. Ensuring students and faculty have the tools they need to succeed is of the highest priority for our computer labs.
